If you really want to start a blog, what’s stopping you? All you honestly need to blog are a computer or phone, internet, and an imagination. Though the most important and sometimes hardest thing is starting!
When I first started blogging almost a year ago, I didn’t quite have everything on this list. It’s not essential in the beginning, but later on when you start getting more serious, you might decide you want to step your game up lol.
You’ll definitely need at least one of the three to start on your blogging journey. I usually use my laptop to write my blog posts, there’s just something about typing on a computer that sort of inspires me.
Though if I’m out and about and I get an idea, I usually just jot it down as a draft or in notes on my phone. Everyone has a preference on what they like to use. As long as you use one, you’ll be good!
A camera is very important for blogging. Whether it’s a regular camera or a camera from a phone you will definitely need one. Though the type/quality of your posts matter, so do pictures. Especially if you are a fashion, beauty, food, etc kind of blogger. Your readers will definitely want to see photos that relate to you and your craft.
Though there are many photos online, you have to be careful! There are many legal aspects to think about, such as copyright claims and fair use. Minus the memes I sometimes use, every photo on this blog is taken by me, or a friend lol.
I’m definitely no photographer, but I am having so much fun taking pictures and learning about photography!
Tripods are always useful when it comes to taking pictures. Though I wouldn’t say they are a necessity, I happen to use them a lot. I use the one pictured above and the one that is part of my ring light stand.
I would suggest getting one if you’re let’s say a fashion blogger, and don’t always have someone there to take pictures of you. Pairing this with a remote would be a really good idea.
Remote For Camera/Phone
Remotes definitely come in handy, when as I stated above, you need pictures of yourself, but don’t have anyone to take them for you.
You could always do the whole timer thing, but even when the timer is set to 15 seconds, I still feel rushed and the picture doesn’t usually end up coming out how I want it to.
The only con about using a remote is that in some full body pics, you have to use special techniques to hide it lol.
These next two items aren’t necessary unless you really want them and to add a little more high quality to your blog.
You can check out a whole post I made on lighting here. Good lighting reallyyy helps with the quality of your pictures and videos! There is a tremendous upgrade in the quality of my pictures and I loveee my ring light!
People take great photos without lighting all the time, but if you have the extra money I would invest in some!
A backdrop is also a nice extra, but something that you don’t need need to blog. If you are a fashion or beauty blogger/youtuber, this might especially interest you. Backdrops that come with stands aren’t that expensive, and if you’re DIY a person you can even make the stand yourself.
Backdrop cloths aren’t too expensive either, but a lot of people just go to the fabric store and buy cloth from there. My stand was decently priced, and came with white and black backdrops.
I loveee it! Sometimes it’s so hard to find the perfect background. Backdrops just make things look more professional, cuter, and cleaner.
Every blogger is different and uses different items and tools to make their blog work for them. These specifically pertain to my blog and what I like to use, but your list could be totally different!
What are some of the tools you use for blogging?
